Engineering Myths #1
Carbon fiber is always the best choice
Carbon fibre offers excellent stiffness to weight performance. But does that automatically make it the right choice for every yacht structure? Not necessarily.
Material selection involves far more than mechanical performance. Cost, manufacturing method, impact resistance, production requirements and the specific load case all influence the decision.
Sometimes carbon fibre is the right solution. Sometimes glass fibre is the smarter choice. Good engineering isn’t about choosing the most advanced material. It’s about choosing the right material for the application.
What would influence your decision to use carbon fibre rather than glass fibre on a boat?
