The Foundations That Define Everything After
Most problems in new-build yachts don’t start in detailed engineering — they start much earlier. Layout, system architecture, structural concept, and even weight assumptions define most of what follows.
When these foundations are not fully aligned, the consequences are familiar: rework during detailed design, compromises during construction, and increased build time and complexity.
One aspect that is often underestimated at this stage is weight control. In composite structures, early weight estimates can vary significantly depending on assumptions, materials, and structural approach. We still see projects where weight is treated as a check rather than a driver — by that point, options are already limited.
When weight is properly understood from the outset, it becomes a tool, helping guide decisions across structure, performance, stability, and system integration. The result is not just a lighter yacht, but a more coherent one.
Good engineering is not only about solving problems — it’s about making the right decisions before they appear.
